[Korea GLS-Korean Politics] May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement

Commitment & Sacrifice

Today is the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement Anniversary.
The May 18 Democratic Uprising was a popular uprising in the city of Gwangju, South Korea, from May 18 to 27, 1980.

Military General Chun Du-hwan declared martial law to crack down on pro-democracy protests.
This fucking guy came to power as Korean President in 1981.

While ordinary citizens and students were demonstrating against the martial law government, they were killed, raped, and beaten by government troops, special forces, in particular.
Hundreds of people were killed and many people were missing at that time.

Former General-turned-President Chun has still had no regret over this terrible massacre, and playing golf from time to time.
What a shamless guy he is!!!!!

As an independent fact-finding commitee was launched last week, I believe that the committee will get the unresolved issue resolved properly.

And we got to teach our children about this Democratization Movement.
Absolutely thanks to their lofy commitment and sacrifice, we've been able to have freedom and democracy here in Korea.

People who forget their history don't have future.
